BTSD Home Learning Plan: Grades K-2

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Let us begin by saying how much we miss all of our students! We hope this letter finds your family well.

It is time to implement online learning with students in grades K-2. This experience has been a journey in itself already, and a new way of life, but we are heading down a new path, together. Your child will begin this new educational journey on Monday, May 4, 2020. Therefore, we wanted to share a few things with you prior to beginning our online work through a program called Odysseyware. As always, if you have any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to reach out.

  • Students will complete 2 subjects daily; Math and ELA

  • Each subject is approximately 30 minutes.

  • We are required by the state to provide new instruction for the remainder of the school year. To do this we will be using the Odyssey SPARK program, which will be your child’s grade level material for the remainder of the school year.

  • Students will receive grades based on the work they complete in the program daily. The grades they receive will be used for the 4th marking period  Standards-Based Report Card.

  • Students should log into Odysseyware (unique link for BTSD) using their student id number as their username and password.

  • Students with an IEP will participate in the program at the discretion and direction of the IEP Team.

  • Attendance is mandatory once online learning begins AND attendance will be taken once your child logs into his/her work for the day. If a child is not “attending” online learning then his/her name will be sent to the counselor. **IF POSSIBLE, we ask that students log into the program by 3:30 daily.**

  • It is important to create a time that works best for your child and your family. We understand that you may have children sharing one chrome book, so please design a time frame that works best for each child. There is no time frame designated for the children to complete their work.

  •  If your child has completed their subjects for the day and is in need of more work to complete. They should utilize the district websites and/or their teacher’s Google Classroom. **Anything outside of the Odysseyware program is optional.**

  • If needed, feel free to continue using the BTSD Daily Work Schedule to help your child stay organized throughout their school day.

  • As this is a completely new program for everyone involved, it will take some time to figure it out. When your child first logs into Odysseyware, he/she will find a video that walks you through the program. Here are a few more videos to help you understand the program: Student Orientation  and Parent Orientation    Parent User Guide

  • Reach out to your child’s teacher during their designated “office hours” if you have any questions, concerns, or in need of support.

We are excited to get started with this new program, as well as with online learning. Please be patient, as this is something new for us all. It is our hope to make this process easy for your child, as well as for yourself. We understand that this is an unprecedented time in your child’s life and we want to be there for him/her, however, we can be. We also understand that each family has its own unique story, and therefore we want to be as accommodating as possible. Please reach out if there is anything we can do. We thank you in advance for your patience and “tiger pride” during the last few weeks. Take care during this time.

PAWS UP HIGH,

The Teachers in Grades K-2
